San Miguel de Allende, a Mexican gem for destination weddings

When you think of a destination wedding in Mexico, visions of oceanfront vows and sandy ceremonies inevitably come to mind. The Riviera Maya, Mayakoba, Cabo San Lucas , Riviera Nayarit – all incredibly gorgeous locations along the Mexican coast that are the most perfect and picturesque places to say “I do”.

But Mexico has an incredible amount of other charms and lust-worthy locations throughout – places that may not boast ocean waves, but ones that are steeped in history and are reminiscent of Mexico’s colonial era. Places like San Miguel de Allende.

A few years ago Claire had the opportunity to visit the historic Mexican city of San Miguel, and to say she fell in love is an understatement. The baroque Spanish architecture, sun-bleached houses lining cobblestone streets, the Neo-Gothic Parroquia Church rising above the city, an abundant arts and festival scene – it’s no wonder it was named The Best City in the World by Travel + Leisure in 2017 and 2018, and still holds the number 2 ranking today.

While a wonderful destination to simply visit and vacation in, Claire was intentionally in San Miguel to scope out a few wedding venues for one of CDWE’s couples looking for a Mexican fete with an old-world flair.

RANCHO LAS SABINAS

This incredible ranch with multiple and spacious gardens, as well as relaxing fountains and terraces where to do magical things. With a beautiful house and charming suites for hosting friends and family. Our favorite thing about it is the open terrace that would allow for a tent and a very flexible setup.

Definitely a great place to celebrate.

ROSEWOOD

Located in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, this beautiful venue offers a wonderful backdrop for an unforgettable wedding. As the previous option, our favorite feature of Rosewood, is the open terrace for a tent and a large size event. The rooftop is formidable as well, and has one of the best views of the city. Moreover, we love that it being a hotel-style property, guests can also lodge here. And Rosewood properties’ high quality and service standard requires no mention here. It’s as good as it gets!

CASA CIEN

Mesmerize yourself with this cute hotel with a gorgeous garden and village vibe. Two green gardens provide the perfect spot for the ceremony and reception. Best suited for groups of up to 150 guests.

INSTITUTO ALLENDE

In the magical town of San Miguel de Allende, is this wonderland, a place that due to its picturesque architecture, its fresh colonial colors create a beautiful environment where you can host spectacular events. This colonial cloister is wonderful for a dinner or reception.

SAN JOSÉ LAVISTA

This beautiful hacienda is characterized by the view of incredible landscapes, generating unique spaces, and attention with high quality service, guaranteeing an unforgettable wedding. With spaces such as the restaurant, Main Garden, surrounded by vineyards, winery and houses facing a lake and an emblematic chapel. One thing though, it’s very centered in angels (and others opposite dark figures) that you find represented everywhere. So, not for everyone in that regard!

CATHEDRAL

This Gothic-style cathedral, very famous for its structure, is an essential and iconic site of this city. With the interior full of details and history. Catholic wedding? That’s the place!
