Virginia and Chris very much wanted to give their guests a fun and unique destination experience for their wedding last March, and they couldn’t think of a better place than the colonial city of Santo Domingo, where much of Virginia’s family is from. The plethora of historic 16th century venues inspired their vision of a modern day affair with an old world feel, and they made a point to incorporate and highlight the city as much as possible.

The weekend started off with a Welcome Dinner on Thursday evening featuring a cigar roller and live local music; Friday was a beach day to give everyone some time to relax; and Saturday was the big day itself! The ceremony took place at the Convento de los Dominicos, a place that holds significant meaning to the bride and her family. Guests then moved next door for cocktail hour, before boarding shuttles to take them on a brief tour of the colonial city en route to the reception location. Music was a top priority for the couple, as they opted for a Dominican Merengue Orchestra to welcome guests, followed by Entourage – an American band flown in from Florida – to get the dance party started later on in the evening. A custom-made clear marquee was designed to cover the reception space in case of rain (something we always recommend!), and Sophie Felts of DC also flew in to bring her gorgeous floral magic touch. It was truly a remarkable weekend and wedding, from start to finish!
